LAB SMACKDOWN
GSU PantherDev, Fall 2024
This is another one of a few PantherDev project in which I was designated as the sole UI designer (and UI artist), but by far this has probably been the most ambitious project that I’ve collaborated on. While up to this point PantherDev has seen its fair share of arduous projects (with varying degrees of success depending on the scope of the projects), a genuine beat-em-up styled game has rarely (if ever) been attempted before up to this point. Naturally, as an avid fan of this genre myself I took up the challenge of creating elements for this project, as I saw a great deal of potential to be had with the end product (which you can check out and enjoy by clicking here!) and was looking to expand my reach in terms of game genres to work on a project for. All of the work that I’ve done for this project was exclusively made using the pixel art software Aseprite—something which was completely new to me when it came to working on user interface elements. Nevertheless, the unique trials and tribulations that came with switching to this software in particular yielded a newfound interest of mine in the form of pixel art and I was satisfied with the outcome once the project was finished!

This is a mockup of my vision of how the definitive HUD might look in-game. Certain elements either had to be tweaked down (read: Professor Null's health bar) or unfortunately didn't make the cut for the finished product (read: the "life" icons underneath the player's health and block bars)
